His lips brush my ear, his teeth touching the cartilage. Not biting, but just so close. “You will scream my name and beg me for my cock. You will fall from grace. Not only that, you’ll luxuriate in living with me, in the shadows.”

Then he kisses my neck, his firm lips finding my pulse point. He sucks at the skin, forcing his body against mine. He is so rough, surely he will leave a mark.

 And I’m frozen, unable to move.

Thinking, not again. I can’t take it if another man does what Father Derrik does to me. I confessed because it’s what Father Derrik said that God wanted from me…

But where is God now?

Nowhere to be found, especially not within Dryas. 

Dryas lets me go all the sudden. I’m forced to catch myself as I stumble a bit, righting my balance. I look at Dryas, my expression hardening.

“You shouldn’t do that.”

MY REVIEW

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Punish is a very promising start to what appears to be an intense and deliciously erotic romance. It is a heart-warming story where the heroine is the damsel in distress that falls irrevocably in love with her captor turned savior. I know that the whole captive/captor theme is highly overused by now and sometimes, you get the feeling that authors are merely repeating the same story, and that the only difference is the characters and the setting. But this book is not like that. Why? You might ask. Because in our protagonist's case, he does not have to rely on extreme and harsh methods to exert his dominance and make the heroine yield. He simply lures her in by slowly opening her up to trying new things and letting her guard down.

If you have read the Cherish series (Dryas' brother Arsen's story), then you might find Dryas Aetòs quite appalling and unlikeable as a character. In those books, he is cruel, merciless, and vindictive. Yet, in Punish and the prequel Provoke, when you finally see things from his perspective, he does have some redeeming qualities and is quite charismatic and formidable as a male protagonist. He is still ruthless and callous, but deep down, he is broken, damaged, and filled with remorse for his unforgivable past actions.

Rue is a sheltered and guarded female. She spent eight years living in a convent where not only was she abused and subjected to excruciating pain and punishments, but she was also brainwashed into thinking that those actions were justified and required in her quest for redemption and divine salvation. When she is abducted by Dryas, she begins to gradually explore her sexuality and come to the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with having sexual fantasies and desires, and mustering up the courage to act on them.

I truly enjoyed this book and was very moved by Dryas' relentless attempts to seduce and protect Rue. It showed a whole new and vulnerable side of his personality. Olivia Ryann delivered such an edgy and steamy romance with damaged, yet great characters, lot of sexual tension, and an ending that will leave you on the edge of your seats, salivating for more.
